Azerbaijan-US writer Mehriban Efendi’s novel became a bestseller on Amazon

Azerbaijan-born American writer Mehriban Efendi’s debut novel “I Sat Alone by the Gate” became a bestseller on the Amazon platform within the first week after it went on sale in the “Middle Eastern Literature” and “Immigrant Stories” categories, according to Azerbaijan in Focus, reporting Oxu.az.

Mehriban Efendi also said that the 20-day American tour, where he presented the book to the public, has ended.

The presentation of the book took place in California, Texas, Illinois, District of Columbia, New York and the Canadian state of Ontario.

The book tour was organized by the writer herself with the support of Azerbaijani public organizations in the United States. In particular, the presentation in Los Angeles was fully organized by Farida Buyuran, the author of the book “Pomegranate and Saffron: A Culinary Journey to Azerbaijan”.

In Houston, Mehriban Efendi was welcomed especially well because she lived in this city with her family until recently. Later, the writer flew to Chicago, then visited Toronto, Washington and finally Brooklyn, the symbolic center of American immigrants.

Books were sold with great success at all events.

At present, Ms. Efendi has returned to Baku and is considering distributing the book in local bookstore chains. The presentation of the book is planned to be held in Baku in September.

It should be noted that the writer worked on the said book during the last six years while living in the United States. When her debut novel was published, she moved to Baku with her family.

The book is about an Azerbaijani family that immigrated to the United States 20 years ago. Its main character is an 18-year-old girl from Baku who moved to the United States with her mother and younger brother. Thus, the reader sees what immigration is from the point of view of three people who live the same reality, but approach what is happening in slightly different ways.
