Baku urged France to stop violating Azerbaijan’s sovereignty

French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Bouillon was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on 31 August, according to Azerbaijan in Focus, reporting Turan.

The Foreign Ministry reports that the Ambassador was handed a note due to “provocative, anti-Azerbaijani statements by the mayor of Paris and representatives of a number of cities accompanying the “humanitarian cargo”.

It was emphasized that these steps of the French side “are not only a direct interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan but also an encroachment on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country protected by international law”.

These provocative actions “are aimed at escalating the situation in the region and encouraging Armenia to continue its revanchist position, which has intensified in recent days”.

The Azerbaijani side considered the attempt to send cargo to the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan without agreement with the Azerbaijani side as a provocative step contrary to international legal norms.

Baku insists that France stop taking steps against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and endanger the fragile process of normalization in the region, the note said.
