Ilham Aliyev: The Alat zone and liberated territories ready to accept investors
Azerbaijan has created favorable conditions for investment, President Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with AZTV after the ceremony of laying the foundation of the Alat Free Economic Zone, according to Azerbaijan in Focus, reporting Turan News.
The area of this economic zone will be 850 hectares. The design on 60 hectares has been completed and the construction of various infrastructure has begun. The purpose of creating this zone is to ensure the production of exports, Aliyev said.
The Alat zone (72 km south of Baku) is convenient from the point of view of logistics. A new sea trade port has also been built here and the East-West and North-South corridors pass.
“Azerbaijan is possibly one of the safest countries in the world. This factor is also very important for investors. We want everyone to come here and invest,” the president said.
Aliyev also pointed to the implementation of important infrastructure projects, thanks to which Azerbaijan received high places in the ratings of international organizations.
Confirming guarantees for foreign investments, Aliyev said that Azerbaijan was committed to the obligations under oil and gas contracts signed from 1994 to the present and that not a single condition was revised in them, “not a single comma has changed.”
“The victory in the second Karabakh war, the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict created a new situation. Long-term stability and peace are already clear to investors. I am sure that all this will attract foreign investors to this zone,” Aliyev said.
At the same time, he noted that foreign companies are trying to work in Azerbaijan as contractors. That is, they want to earn more in Azerbaijan. “We do not mind, today we are attracting foreign contractors, contractors even to the vacated lands. But we want foreign investors to invest in Azerbaijan.
A lot of construction work is currently starting on the liberated lands, which will lead to a great economic recovery. Without direct foreign investment, the country will not be able to develop the way we would like it to. Therefore, the task is to ensure the supply of funds from abroad from potential investors, Aliyev said.
