President Ilham Aliyev Congratulates Azerbaijani People on Kalbajar Liberation
The President of Azerbaijan and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev has congratulated the people of Azerbaijan on the liberation of the Kalbajar district from illegal Armenian occupation, according to ‘Azerbaijan in Focus’, reporting AzerTac.
Speaking on Azerbaijani TV, he victoriously stated: “The Kalbajar district has been liberated today from occupation. I heartily congratulate all Azerbaijani people on this occasion. Dear people of Kalbajar, may you be joyful! Your native district has been liberated from occupation. The people of Azerbaijan have been looking forward to this day for years.”
The President recalled: “The occupation of Kalbajar district was a great tragedy, as was the occupation of each district. Following the occupation of Shusha and Lachin in May 1992, the occupation of Kalbajar created a geographical link between Armenia and the Azerbaijani region of Nagorno-Karabakh.”
He continued: “Everyone knows that the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region did not have a border with the Republic of Armenia. This was separated from Nagorno-Karabakh by the Lachin district and the Lachin corridor. The occupation of Lachin, Shusha and the Kalbajar district created a geographical connection between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh over a large area, and this was the enemy’s goal. Following the occupation of Kalbajar, it is possible to say that communication was established between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh in many ways. Primarily, weapons, equipment and manpower were sent to Armenia from there. It thus provided great advantages for Armenia’s subsequent policy of aggression.”
