The remains of 10 more missing people have been identified, one of them was National Hero Riad Akhmedov

“The remains of 10 more of our citizens have been identified, 9 of which were military personnel”, stated Ali Nagiyev, the Chairman of the State Commission for Prisoners, Missing Persons and Hostages, during the conference titled, “Strengthening National and Global Efforts to Determine the Fate of Missing Persons”, according to Azerbaijan in Focus, reporting Minval.

The Chairman noted that among the identified was the National Hero of Azerbaijan Riad Akhmedov.

Akhmedov took part in the battles against the Armenian aggressors as a volunteer. Despite being wounded in the battles for Chaikend, he did not abandon his front-line comrades in subsequent operations. On January 2, 1992, Lieutenant Colonel Riad Akhmedov was transferred to the post of deputy head of the Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense for the purpose of direct participation in combat operations.

It was emphasized that on January 22, 1992, under the pretext of serving in the Shirvan region, he went on a trip to Shusha. The Dashalty operation, which ended unsuccessfully due to betrayal, became the last battle for Riad Akhmedov and many of his front-line comrades. The wounded Akhmedov was able to transmit information about heavy fighting and losses to certain authorities via radio.

Two weeks later, with the assistance of international organizations, the bodies of the victims were returned, but Riad was not among them.
