Tourist complex of mud volcanoes will be ready to receive tourists by the end of the next year
The State Tourism Agency disclosed information about conclusion of a contract with “Bakı Abadlıq Xidməti” LLC in August this year for the creation of tourism infrastructure on the territory of mud volcanoes located in the Absheron region.
According to Azerbaijan in Focus, reporting Turan News, the company was selected not through an open tender, but through a non-transparent method of procurement – request for proposals. Construction work and other services will cost the state 6 million 228,000 manats, or 3.6 million dollars. The tourist complex of mud volcanoes will be ready to receive tourists by the end of the next year, a single portal of public procurement stated.
The 12-hectare complex includes an area for ATVs, hiking trails, a zipline and observation tower, parking, a souvenir store, as well as healing baths. There is no information about the economic feasibility of the project.
In order to create the road infrastructure leading to the complex, it is planned to lay a 20 km road paving the way to Gylyndzh volcano and other nearby volcanoes from Gobustan reserve and creating the tourism cluster Baku-Gobustan-Mud Volcanoes. This was reported in April this year at the ceremony of foundation laying of the complex with participation of President Ilham Aliyev.
